Karen Chin, BSN, RN

I have had the pleasure of working with Karen numerous times. Many of those working nights have been very busy. Karen continuously and consistently puts the patient’s welfare as a priority. One night, Karen’s patient had been in constant pain but was also being weaned off some narcotics. It was Karen’s first night with that patient. She patiently spent some time with her explaining, listening, and gaining rapport with the patient. The patient was having a hard time with her nurses the night before. However, Karen was able to turn things around and made the patient cooperative and calm. She slept soundly and did not call the whole night. When I asked Karen, she said she just listened to her vent her frustrations. This is one characteristic that sets Karen apart from the rest - her good listening skills and compassionate care. A truly Extraordinary Nurse.
