Karen Cooper had just finished teaching CPR class when she heard what sounded like someone in distress. She went down the hall to assess the situation. She found a coworker, J, to be unresponsive. She called for help- told an education assistant to call 911, and immediately began CPR. Associates working in IT quickly arrived to help. CPR continued until EMS arrived- EMS resumed care- stabilized the associate, and transported them to Tidal Health. J received appropriate care and then was D/C to rehab.

The next day, an AED was placed in the IT building, and training was provided to staff. From this event, we have started the process of placing AEDs in all of our non-clinical areas, and training has been provided. Several non-clinical CPR classes have been and will continue to be offered to staff.
