Karen recognized that the son of one of our patients had not left the hospital since his father's admission to the ICU. He hadn't showered or changed clothes and she was also concerned that he wasn't taking his own medications. Karen took the son to Guest Services to shower and provided him with clean clothes from the clothes closet. Concerned for his safety, Karen encouraged him to go home to rest, however, he didn't have transportation. Karen called the social worker who was able to provide the son transportation home and assistance to come back to the hospital when he was ready. Karen, because you care, you went above and beyond to care for our patient's family member. Karen's care for this patient and family is a true example of holistic nursing care.
