Karen Evans RN went the extra mile to verify the correct side for a thoracotomy/lobectomy when all papers, and forms we usually check pre-operatively said "right" and the patient said "right," but the family said, "left." She was diligent to ask for radiologic verification reports to be sure of the site. She even had a radiologic report sent from another hospital.

This was also a safety save, because if she hadn't asked in the proper way and listened carefully to family, this patient would likely have had wrong site surgery. I applaud Karen for being so caring and thorough on her patient's behalf. I believe this exemplifies all that the DAISY Award stands for.
