I have worked with many spectacular nurses, surgical technicians, doctors and others along my professional journey at Mercy Hospital. There is one that stands out as an extraordinary nurse who does her job extremely well and goes above and beyond continuously. Karen Hettinger is kind, patient, organized, intelligent and all the qualities that make an excellent nurse and person. I've honestly never seen her mad or frustrated! She will put her own needs aside for her coworkers and patients and will take the extra time to attend to their needs. She is quiet by nature and has "superhuman" listening skills, which is an important skill to have. She acknowledges everyone around her in a cordial manner and will genuinely smile. I never know when she is having a bad day at work because she does her job as a saint would. She is truly a great role model and provides her patients with comfort and a sense of security.
