You can feel her passion for us and her unwillingness to accept anything but the best for the staff.
Karen has been a strong nursing leader and advocate for nurses as well as patients for her entire career. She tackles the daily challenges of nursing leadership head-on. She is quick to recognize needs and opportunities and works fast to resolve them. She consistently pulls together key stakeholders on issues and is very proactive and transparent with her communication.

Karen has very high standards for herself and pushes her team to grow and expand their knowledge, education, and experience. She secured funding to support certification and new programs such as PACE. She is an incredible mentor and always strives to further the professional growth and development of nurses. She encouraged me to stretch myself beyond my comfort zone to become a better nurse and nurse leader.

Karen is always there to listen when you need support or advice. She willingly shares her wisdom. Karen cares deeply about the nurses on her team and will go above and beyond to help them, professionally and personally. She wants to know the staff, know their concerns, and their pressing issues… and she wants to fix them.

Karen has always been a fierce advocate for the safety of our nursing staff. She always thinks about what is happening on the frontline and advocates for improvement that will help nurses and enhance outcomes for patients. You can feel her passion for us and her unwillingness to accept anything but the best for the staff.

No one was prepared for the Covid pandemic. Nursing overall took a huge hit. Karen was a constant, positive motivator; a cheerleader for our nursing staff. She was always looking for ways to encourage the staff and nurse leaders from free meals to small tokens of appreciation. She has led several initiatives to promote nurses’ mental health over the past 3 years including the Wellness Committee and Newsletter and the Resiliency Rounds.

Karen’s heart for nursing is evident in all that she does. She has left her mark on the profession and on Baptist. It is fitting that Karen shares a birthday with Florence Nightingale. She was born to be a nurse and she fulfilled her duty to the highest degree to nurses and patients alike.
