At 3 AM in the morning I was called into work for surgery on a very sick patient with ischemic bowel that required a bowel resection. This was a very, very busy case and in the middle of the night, I am the only nurse/circulator. During the surgery, I needed several medications that were not available in our Pyxis as well as some supplies not available to us in our OR. I called Karen and, on several occasions, she ran and got the necessary items so that I could focus on the patient and the surgery. The multiple steps and favors Karen completed for us allowed the OR staff to give the patient optimal care. Karen is a true team player!!!
