June 2025 Honoree
Karen Keane, RN
On Saturday, my father was not feeling well, specifically with hot flashes and dizziness. At 82, we thought it might be nothing, but we also thought it best to get it checked out. We arrived at BEH ED, and after dropping dad off and parking, Karen Anne walked dad back to an ED room in the most caring manner and, at the same time, politely asked us to wait in the waiting room. After a few minutes, she came back to let us know that they had to perform a cardioversion. She sat down beside my sister and I to described why they did the procedure. She also went through the effects the heart rate has on oxygen perfusion. She noted that the machine did not indicate his heart rate was that high, but upon feeling his pulse, she was concerned. Her quick actions helped to avoid a potentially more serious situation.
Thank you, Karen, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
