Karen was caring for a baby in NICU and built a strong rapport with the mom. When mom was speaking to her one day, the mom disclosed her feelings and that she had no family or support her in Las Vegas. Mom stated that her family lived in California and she wished that she were closer to them. Karen took upon herself to contact the social worker and spoke with the physicians to see if baby could be transferred to California so that mom and baby could be in a place where both would have the support they needed from family. Needless to say the entire team worked hard and baby was transferred to California much to the surprise and delight of mom. Karen Kikta was instrumental in being the advocate for this family and making mom's wish a reality.
