Karen Kouretas, RN, MSN was nominated by her staff for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. Karen was recognized by her staff for her exemplary leadership skills and dedication to the staff and operation of the D-11 Trauma Nursing Unit. D-11 nurses praised her integrity, ethics, and fairness to all. They included examples of her bedside skills and gave stories of her direct patient care management.
Over the past three years she has been tasked with developing and managing the Ebola unit which has now become the Emerging Infectious Disease - Response Team (EIDRT) unit. Karen earned her staff's trust and appreciation for her attention to detail and safety for all while the unit was evolving.
Karen's staff believe she is a remarkable manager, nurse, and friend. Staff members wrote a poem which captured many wonderful aspects of Karen's character during her career which was read aloud at the presentation. Karen received the prestigious DAISY Nurse Leader Award from Interim Chief Patient Care Services Officer Toby Marsh, RN, MSA, MSN, FACHE, NEA-BC
