My husband was admitted after having a heart cath that showed so much blockage that he needed open heart surgery. To say that we were surprised by the news is an understatement. He was told so much information by the cardiologist and the cardiothoracic surgeons that made his head spin. He was instantly anxious, depressed, sad, mad, and just wanted to go home!
He had blood drawn, ultrasounds, and meds given to him. There were visits by all sorts of people, it was overwhelming. He texted me while I was at work on Wednesday and told me about Karen and how wonderful she has been. She sat down and took her time answering all his questions. I was with my husband all day the next day and met Karen, and what a blessing she has been for my husband and me. She is what I refer to as “old traditional nursing” which is what every nurse should strive to be.
My own mom was an RN for over 50 years, and she loved her patients. She worked for Dr. M. for over 35 years as a cardiology nurse. My mom passed away in 2013, I sure would love to have her back especially while my husband is about to have such a huge surgery! However, having Karen be our nurse is the next best!
Being caring, patient, and listening to the patient as if he/she is the most important person in the room is what I think the best nursing is. Karen went above and beyond helping, talking, and making my husband laugh. While my husband is still very anxious about his surgery tomorrow, he is educated because of Karen. Thank you for having a wonderful nurse such as Karen at TMH.
