October 2024 Honoree
Karen Marshall, MHA, RN, NE-BC
Karen is the model of what a leader should be.
Karen supports our hospital as a Stroke Coordinator, supports mentoring circles, and has researched the topic of nursing resilience leading to optimal patient outcomes. She has also committed her time to volunteering at a variety of community health events, including Hesed House, the Asbury Resource Center, the MS Walk, animal adoption events, and many others.
Karen encourages others to become more. She supports bedside staff-driven change to help improve patient care and outcomes, and she consistently encourages her staff to reach their full potential in many different ways. She brings together a diverse group of individuals with different backgrounds and helps unite them toward a common goal: providing the very best care. Karen believes every person has unique strengths to contribute to the team.
Karen celebrates her team's accomplishments, contributions, and families. She advocates for her staff, even when there is no personal benefit to doing so. She always has an open door, whether someone needs support, guidance, or simply a listening ear. Through her leadership, she has helped create a unit culture built on kindness, respect, and support.
Karen is a compelling leader, a coach, a cheerleader, and an advocate. She truly exemplifies what it means to be a nurse leader at Atrium Health and is an outstanding role model for everyone fortunate enough to work alongside her.
