I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the exceptional care I have been fortunate enough to receive by all of the nursing staff during my current hospital stay, especially the care provided by Karen Minard.
Karen's care made me feel deeply considered, safe, and advocated for at all times, no matter what else was going on. She diligently assessed me and responded to all of my needs. In addition, she went above and beyond in her efforts to listen, teach, and understand so that the nurse-patient relationship was as positive and effective as possible. Her compassion and empathy take her nursing talents to the next level. Her proactive approach and exceptional bedside manner revolutionized my world as a patient.
I am a chronically ill patient, and I am also a neonatal ICU nurse. I understand what it is like to be a nurse and provide healthcare to some of the most vulnerable patients; and, I also understand what it is like to be a patient in my most vulnerable state. As a patient, I am often at the nucleus of many difficult medical situations which often compromise my care and treatment. Karen not only sympathized and empathized with this complex situation, but she understood I have acute needs at times and need to be considered in a special manner. She demonstrated this consistently while delivering my care. Her advocacy for delivering care in my best interests transformed my experience at Christiana Hospital and my healing process from this acute health event.
Karen is a truly special nurse and a blessing to her patients, and an asset to this organization. My family and I are extremely grateful.
