My dad suffered a cardiac arrest at home and seemed to be doing well. They found he had a GI bleed, and he ended up having another cardiac arrest in endoscopy. Getting the call that my dad ha coded was so scary. They called us back to his room when they got him back from endo and from the minute he got back, Karen never stopped.

I've never seen my dad in that state or my mom or brother. It was hard for all of us to watch. Karen was amazing. She helped my dad and started hanging all those medications to keep him comfortable. She was constantly on the phone with doctors and the nurse practitioner. She was not only there for my dad when he didn't even know it, but she was there for us. She explained everything she was doing and what to expect.

She showed kindness, compassion, empathy. She let us hold our dad's hands and encouraged us to talk to him even though he was on a ventilator and had sedation. She never asked us to move, and always allowed us to be by his side while she worked around us. I'm so thankful for Karen, and for her being my dad's nurse during one of the scariest events we went through as a family. We will always be so thankful and grateful for her.
