Before Karen became a nurse she worked as a beautician/barber. Shortly after starting on 2SW, Karen noticed a patient in desperate need of a haircut and beard trim. The following day, Karen brought her scissors, shaver and cape with her to work. Karen worked her magic and in no time, this patient's looks were completely transformed. Not only were his looks transformed, so was his mood and his self-esteem was obviously lifted.
Since that first haircut over a year ago, Karen has been cutting hair for our patients on a weekly basis. This personal attention Karen gives means so much to our patients. Most of the patients Karen helps out do not have the ways and means to get anywhere for a haircut or beard trim outside of the hospital.
It is a joy to work with this energetic and compassionate nurse! Karen models empathy, and caring everyday she comes to work.
