Karen's skills and especially her compassionate care exemplify the kind of nurse that our patients, their families, and our staff consider as an outstanding role model. She consistently possesses the qualities based on our KFSH&RC values. She has been here in the organization for almost six years now and I witnessed a lot of situation where she was able to surpass rightfully during our duty.
Karen had a trans-in patient from another unit and as soon as the patient arrived in the room, the patient was crying, anxious, complaining from a lot of things and wants to be transferred to another area. She did her best to calm down the patient, encourage relaxation technique and tell some success stories about patient's satisfaction and achievement of expectations in our unit.
She consistently displays her goal towards professional development by means of enrolling herself in a master degree to sustain her professional growth.
I admire her for being cheerful despite of heavy workload; she seems to be resourceful, energetic staff. In terms of teamwork she never fails to provide support with her colleagues, especially with the new staff as well as serves as a preceptor to (NDS) students.
In terms of multidisciplinary team interaction, I observed that our doctors were confident to accept her valuable opinion. They even mentioned that she should be assigned as one of the resource nurses simply because she knows our patient very well (critical labs, diagnosis, procedures, results, concerned department to contact if need urgent assistance, giving suggestions, etc.).
I am proud and pleased to work with Karen. Her knowledge and skills are simply amazing, that's why I decided to take this opportunity to acknowledge and nominate her in this prestigious award because I know that she deserves to be recognized by our institution as a DAISY Award Honoree.
