This month, our family celebrated the year anniversary of when our daughter A was discharged from the NICU. It brought us back to that difficult time, but it also reminded us how grateful we are for our now healthy daughter. We thought about how lucky we were to have such an amazing group of doctors and nurses caring for her and how one nurse, in particular, deserves some recognition.
When A was placed on ECMO, we were lucky enough to have Karen Price as our bedside nurse. That day, our parents were coming in to visit for the first time. Being a NICU nurse myself, it was hard to imagine how I would explain heart-lung bypass to my family as it pertained to my own daughter. Karen went out of her way to greet our parents at reception and thoroughly explained the situation-- how A would look, what all the tubes were, and how ECMO works. Karen was a great support to our family and of course, took amazing care of our daughter. My family cannot express our gratitude enough. Karen, keep doing what you're doing-- you are an amazing asset to the NICU!
