Karen is the type of RN that you want caring for your child. She will go above and beyond everything to ensure the child gets exactly what they need. I recently witnessed Karen trying to get a critical patient expedited to the ACH campus for care. She immediately recognized the severity of illness and urgent need for an intervention from the moment the referring physician told her the story. She went into "Karen mode" and begin making this transfer happen. She used extensive critical thinking by dispatching the Transport Team so they could be at patient's bedside in a timely fashion. She had to multi-task in reaching several ACH Physicians to ensure this child was set up for success. Even though she ran into some challenges in this process, she persevered and did all she needed to do for this child. You saw her passion and compassion for this family and how she wanted to do all she could. This is one example of many! She is always doing these types of things and going the extra mile for her patients and families. I see her push through a challenge when others may pause. As I said, she is the type of RN that you want caring for your son or daughter. I am honored to have Karen in my department. She is everything that the DAISY Award stands for.
