My 90 year old father was admitted to the hospital the day before my 86 year old mother's birthday. He was concerned that he messed up her birthday and was telling his nurse, Karen, about this. When my mother and I arrived at the hospital, Karen had set up a party in the room. Somehow, she got a cake from the kitchen, had made some posters, and even had a party hat for my father to wear. My father had not asked her to do this, she did this on her own. My mother, father, and I were greatly touched by her kindness and concern. I have worked 40 years as an RN in various roles including staff nurse. I have seen many nurses go well beyond their role as nurses for their patients and their families and I must say, that what Karen did for my parents was one of the nicest things I have seen. My parents have been married for 68 years never missing each other's Bday and thanks to Karen the record continues. Thank you, Karen. You certainly are a DAISY Nurse!
