I believe if Karen had not taken the time to look at everything, my vitals, my response to meds, and my physical being, I wouldn’t be here.
My memories might not be in order or exact, but I will do my best. I went to the Paulding ED because I was having trouble breathing. I figured I had pneumonia again. Normal test run, chest x-ray, CT, etc., then admitted. Things get fuzzy from here. I knew I was on antibiotics and was running a fever off and on. Again, I cannot tell you the day, but Karen was caring for me. I do remember her taking my hand and saying she had done everything she could do, and I was not improving. There was nothing else she could personally do but get help. Her actions saved my life. I don’t know if I was in IMCU at that time or not, but when she came back, she brought the Pulmonologist and I want to say 2 or 3 other Drs. The Pulmonologist said something like he had never seen my lungs look worse, they looked like they were on fire. I believe if Karen had not taken the time to look at everything, my vitals, my response to meds, and my physical being, I wouldn’t be here. I know that when they said ICU and were talking, she did tell me, “I told you I was going to get help.” She also came to see me more than once in the ICU to check on me. She would ask if I remembered her…how can you forget someone who helped save your life? Caring for a patient goes beyond giving them meds and taking their vitals. It’s about seeing them, all of them.
