During the period of time we were getting ready for the influx of Coronavirus patients, Karen's leadership skills were fantastic. She did everything she could to keep staff informed, even when they were self-isolating. When it came to moving from our comfort zone and into other areas to assist colleagues from Critical care, Karen made sure everyone was as up to date as she was and arranged for staff to gain the training that they needed to feel more confident.
Karen didn't sit in her office and hide. She joined us all in the thick of it, shadowing on ICU for experience before we were deployed to help out in the COVID theatre PODS. Karen has helped put people's minds at ease and has enabled the whole department to flourish in a time of great stress. She has done her best to accommodate as many 'special' requests as possible, as well as make sure people were redeployed to appropriate areas given the complex reasons most of us were working in her department to start with.
I for one am grateful to have had such a strong and competent manager during this time. I want her to be recognized for what she does and how she goes above and beyond for her team at all times.
