Despite a language barrier, Kari was able to have the mother agree to come back to the ED the next day and provided all six children with the appropriate car seat.
Upon reviewing trauma charts, Kari noted a motor vehicle crash that brought in a mother and six children. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured and they were seen quickly. During their treatment, it was discovered that the children were unrestrained during the crash, however, they quickly left the ED without the opportunity to ensure they had car seats available. Recognizing this situation, Kari took it upon herself to determine the patients' primary care physician (which was in fact not the one listed) and contact them about her concern that the patients did not have car seats. Once she was able to make contact with the PCP, the PCP contacted the mother who then contacted Kari. Despite a language barrier, Kari was able to have the mother agree to come back to the ED the next day and provided all six children with the appropriate car seat. Kari came in on her day off to do this. Kari has secured a grant through the state to provide the car seats free of charge for the family and will install them as a certified car seat installer. Her diligence and compassion for this family will ensure that they are safe while they are traveling. Thank you so much to Kari for all of her hard work.
