I was admitted to the OB floor for induction of my 15-week-old baby, who no longer had a heartbeat. This was a very scary, and devastating day for my partner and I. Our hearts were broken. We had no idea what the hospital visit would require from us mentally and physically.

In my mind, I was feeling angry at the world and at myself for not being able to fully carry my baby girl. Kari was the charge nurse that day, but you wouldn’t have guessed it. Kari visited me frequently and checked on my physical and mental pain. She made my partner and I feel comfortable and normal as it could be. Kari made us laugh; she made sure to also explain anything we had questions about.

The thing that will forever stick with me is the fact that Kari stayed past her shift to make sure I was taken care of, and made sure a familiar face was in the room while I delivered my stillborn. Kari held my hand and encouraged me; she waited until the whole procedure was done, which was very quick. The fact that she was willing to so selflessly spare 5 minutes or however long it was meant so much to me.

I don’t think there are enough words to truly express how thankful I am for her act of service. TRMC is truly lucky to have her as an employee, a leader who sets an example of compassion and selflessness. I was lucky she was there on such a heartbreaking day for me.

Thank you, Kari, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
