My child was hospitalized for a minor procedure that required an overnight stay. Kari was the charge nurse during my son's hospitalization. The nurse assigned to my son was fairly new and did not know how to answer a few of my questions (although she did a great job in caring for my son). Kari stepped right in and handled the situation with such respect and such a caring attitude while also caring for the rest of the unit at the same time. Not only did Kari fix the problem, but she followed up hours later and checked on us. She made my son feel so much better about his overnight stay and made me feel so much better as a parent. I was scared about my son's first hospitalization and Kari was able to put me at ease.

But apart from Kari's progression and elevation in her career, she has not forgotten about the importance of the bedside. Such was evident when she was given a Safety Hero Award for raising awareness and advocating better pain control and anxiolysis for patients undergoing lumbar punctures.
