September 2021 Honoree
Kari Nelson, BSN, RN
Kari made a critical observation of a patient for a stent placement. Kari noticed on the x-ray "staining" on it and notified the doctor immediately. There was a wire perforation in the coronary artery that was causing a Pericardial Effusion. The doctor looked at the film and the patient was taken back to the Cath Lab. Without Kari's observation, the patient would have had a Cardiac Tamponade. A Pericardiocentesis and a Coronary Artery Embolization were performed. The doctor was very impressed with her observation. Most importantly, the patient "wasn't" even Kari's patient. Kari's skills and observation saved a patient's life. Thank you Kari!!
Thank you, Kari, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
