Words cannot express how truly blessed and lucky we are to have Karin, an incredible nurse and a human being with the biggest heart, the brightest smile, the coolest hair and most upbeat, positive, and encouraging attitude in our unit.
Karin is, without a doubt, one of the hardest working nurses on our unit. On any given day, whether she is our awesome resource nurse, running around the unit, or caring for the sickest of babies, Karin gives 100% of herself to her patients, parents, and anyone who needs help.
There are numerous examples of her extraordinary care and compassion that come to mind, but one I would like to mention in particular. During one of my recent shifts, I was a zone leader in an area that had a couple of very unstable babies; one of these babies had a critical central line that was literally this patient's lifeline. Not only was this baby very unstable but his line started leaking. During said shift, Karin was our resource nurse and had been working non-stop contacting different units, physicians, and surgeons to not only figure out important information about the line's capacity and potential alternative solutions for access and having the existing line fixed, but when the baby eventually took a turn for the worse, she was already at this baby's bedside, ready to help with anything and everything.
