Our beautiful daughter was unexpectantly born when going to get a checkup for decreased movement in the womb. They realized that her heart rate was fluctuating at an abnormal rate and was in distress. Our primary doctor came in and made the decision to deliver the baby at 24 weeks and one day. We were so scared, but the hospital staff was so welcoming and knew exactly what to say and do.
Our daughter had been in the NICU for over 150 days. Her primary nurse (Karissa Romine) was hands down one of the kindest individuals and was clearly an expert in her field. She made sure that my daughter received the appropriate care and at the right time. She knew exactly who to contact and was able to effectively determine the situation she was in. Her professionalism and commitment to duty are apparent with her everyday demeanor. She distinguishes herself among all her peers as our daughter has been under the care of many nurses during her stay. She exemplifies herself as a leading example of Wolfson's and Baptist Health's mission and values through everyday Excellence while providing optimal care for our daughter and the rest of the NICU babies.
One example of her selfless extraordinary, compassionate care was that when our daughter had a big day (ie. Surgery and/or Diagnosis), she was always there to ensure she was well taken care of. She would do this out of kindness, compassion, and commitment. She genuinely cares about her NICU babies. You can even see it when she is training new nurses as they are clearly happy to be around her. Even when things were looking grim with no end in sight for when our daughter was going to come home, Karissa kept our spirits up with her reassuring knowledge and optimism. She demonstrated love, compassion, and kindness in everything that she did. She is a true DAISY Nurse and is a clear role model for the rest of the NICU Staff.
