Karla is the best nurse you could ever have. I appreciated her more than she will ever know.
Karla Hasben was a caring, friendly, informative, accommodating nurse to me. During my stay after a suicide attempt, I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. I didn't know what that was. Karla took the time to explain it to me; then sometime during the night, while I was sleeping, she left a printout about the disease on my tray going above and beyond to help me understand this diagnosis. During that night she came in to give me my thyroid pill and before she woke me, she scanned my bracelet, got the medicine ready, and then woke me to take my pill. She said I was sleeping so well she wanted to let me sleep as long as possible so she had everything ready for me so I could go right back to sleep.
On the days I didn't want to get out of bed she encouraged me to go to group, telling me that not only did my peers need my support, but I also needed them too. She encouraged me to take short walks and talked to me when I needed someone to talk to, she was the kindest, most attentive nurse I've ever had during all my stays at ChristianaCare. She was always on time with my medications (with some of the other nurses I had to wait or chase one down to get them.) I wish I could have had her every day I was there (which was 8) but I realize there are schedules.
But the days she was my nurse she understood me, understood what I was going through, was patient, honest, and funny. Karla is the best nurse you could ever have. I appreciated her more than she will ever know, and I wish I had the opportunity to say goodbye when I was discharged but sadly I couldn't. I'm not sure if what I wrote actually expresses the depth of my appreciation and caring for Karla. I felt like I had a friend in her and I've thought about her so many times since I left the hospital. I miss her so much, please give her my love and tell her thank you for being not only the best nurse but an awesome, caring, and loving person.
