In an environment such as our OPD clinics where there is such a high volume of throughput of patients, Karla constantly provides compassionate care every day and is a great role model to those around her. One patient described her as "extremely sweet and caring". She always offers her assistance when she sees her colleagues under pressure.
When she newly joined the orthopedic team, I received a call from one of the clinic physicians. I was pleasantly surprised to hear an appreciation towards Karla that was prompted by this physician, saying "from where you got this excellent nurse, bring more like her". This was not a one-off but was the first of many. Physicians and patients alike have acknowledged Karla's work performance, her compassion, and her empathy.
