Being admitted in a hospital is challenging in and of itself but add a severely disabled patient and the hospital stay can become even more challenging for the patient and the staff that care for the patient. This situation happened not too long ago, but two staff went above and beyond to make the hospital stay for a severely disabled patient enjoyable and made an impact on the patient’s mother. These staff purchased markers, coloring books, stickers, balloons, and bubbles to help keep the patient engaged with his care and to assist the patient’s mother in keeping her son participating in his treatment.
What really impressed the family for this patient was the time the staff took out of their own schedules to make a difference for this patient. Cathy Marburg-Long and Karla Parra took the time to show compassion on this patient and his mother. Their act of kindness made it possible for this patient to be entertained, but most importantly participate in his medical care. The family mentioned that Cathy and Karla were able to relate to the needs of the family and build a connection with the patient to know what would keep the patient entertained and to participate in his medical care. Cathy and Karla, this is just an example of the hard work, effort, and compassion we know you put into every patient. Thank you for making a difference for this patient and his mother.
