What makes Karla extraordinary is that she does the difficult work of nursing, day in and day out, with a certain joy about her.That spirit permeated throughout the care she gave me when I was an inpatient at Beverly Hospital.
On a particularly difficult night during my stay, I recall pressing the call button and Karla coming in with her lovely, soft smile asking me what she could do to help. I was frustrated and discouraged and began to cry. Karla immediately took charge and initiated a series of tasks to make me more comfortable. She did this all while reassuring me that everything would be okay. And she was right. In my book, Karla is the template for the extraordinary nurse.
