Karla came in on her weekend off when a fire occurred behind the VA at Riverfront Park, and level 3 evacuation notices were extremely close to where we were. She ensured that we had the air scrubbers we needed, which helped not only the unit staff but also our vulnerable patients, whom we frequently see in the hospital. This is not the first time I have seen Karla come in on a day off to help the hospital during emergencies. She did the same when the fires occurred in Medical Lake, which had caused our hospital to become dangerously smoky and difficult for many to breathe. Karla’s expertise in emergency management greatly impacts us. In doing this, she has demonstrated going above and beyond what is required to ensure safety for not only our Veterans but also the staff in the hospital. She consistently demonstrates her skills at work and with all of her patients.
