Karman's positivity was so contagious that it completely shifted my attitude about being in the hospital.
I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in my early teens, and have interacted with probably over 100 nurses between my onset of symptoms and now. Out of all of the nurses I have had for treatments, routine visits, lab work, procedures, and hospitalizations, Karman rises above the rest in her genuineness, empathy, nursing skills, and attitude. After being discharged from my most recent hospitalization at CHOP, I knew that I had to make my first DAISY Award nomination.

This most recent hospitalization was quite hard as I was feeling very sick and had to leave the city where I live with my college friends to travel to CHOP for adequate care. As an almost 21-year-old in a pediatric hospital, I felt very out of place. Karman's positivity was so contagious that it completely shifted my attitude about being in the hospital. Her encouragement to drink tons of water, reminders to bend the arm that I had an IV in, and tips and tricks for protecting an IV in the shower greatly improved my patient experience at CHOP and allowed me to get discharged earlier than I anticipated.

While I was under her care, Karman was extremely responsive to anything I needed, and she always remembered to check-in and grab things that I had mentioned needing. She truly went above and beyond in her nursing role to the point that I felt as if I were her only patient. Karman possesses the very unique ability to see beyond a patient's condition and see the patient as a person first. Our conversations about running, shoes, traveling nursing, and college made me feel understood and welcome. I can truly say Karman is the best nurse that I have ever had, and I cannot think of someone more deserving of the DAISY Award.
