July 2019 Honoree
karmen henry, RN
I just wanted to let you know about the exceptional care that one of your ICU nurses, RN Karmen, provided to our patient this week. This patient is pregnant and in the CCU. The patient is extremely challenging, even by Harbor-UCLA Medical Center standards, and I was the OB attending of the week trying to coordinate her care, so I saw the patient and her ICU care firsthand.
Understandably, OB patients are not the easiest patients to care for let alone with the number of medical conditions, workup, etc. that this patient was having done on a daily basis. Karmen's balance of all these aspects was truly second to none! She clearly was a superb ICU nurse given her comfort and understanding of complex medical care, but also understood the need to put the mom (our patient) first in regard to her medical care, post-op care, and last but not least compassion. I knew that she was in good hands with Karmen and that if anything was truly concerning that I would be notified. If I were pregnant and, in the ICU, I could only hope for a nurse like Karmen.
