Karol B. Shughart, BSN RN
Karol Shughart always goes above and beyond for patients and staff.
Karol does the callbacks for our patients who have been discharged home. I have overheard her talking with these patients to ensure they are picking up their prescriptions and keeping their follow-up appointments. If they have had problems with getting their medications or follow-up appointments, she assists them with resolving these issues.
She reaches out to the doctors and case management, etc., to meet their needs. Karol also assists with educating new CNAs and new nurses in the TTP program. She enjoys helping our new staff to learn the skills they need to succeed. She also helps with pressure rounding and informs the primary nurses of problems she has found or the potential for a problem to arise.
Her goal is to keep the patients' best interests in mind. With all these things she does, she still works the floor occasionally, taking a full load of patients, where her skills are still evident from passing meds, starting IVs, collaborating care with the doctors, CNAs, etc. She always puts the patients first. She always has a caring, compassionate attitude.
She is a valuable asset to our hospital, and with all the things she does, I think she should be recognized for it. I always appreciate her input because she has a lot of knowledge to share.
