When a patient enters into an Emergency Room they require care in a proficient, professional, and personal level. Karolyn Swann, a Registered Nurse, has been working as a clinical coordinator within our Emergency Department for many years. With this role, she is responsible for every patient, visitor and employee who enters our doors. Karolyn accepts this challenge with the goal of achieving excellent outcomes. Her ability to anticipate the needs, provide attention and pull from her available resources has saved many lives within our walls.
My first night of working with Karolyn, we received a patient from a motor vehicle accident. Unfortunately, another passenger in the car, his wife, was killed on impact. I was touched by her kindness, concern and compassion for this patient over the extreme loss that he had suffered. I felt her dedication to the field of Emergency Room nursing and admired her for choosing a path that has such an extreme impact on the lives of others. Since that night, I have witnessed Karolyn on many occasions display this same empathy and graciousness.
The national standards of core measures are a priority in the Emergency Room. Karolyn ensures that each patient is receiving the appropriate quality care to provide our patients with the best outcomes.
I am often amazed at how efficiently she manages an Emergency Room as large as ours. Patients can arrive via private car, ambulance or helicopter with a variety of diverse causes for their visits. She oversees each patient, order, discharge or admission with expertise and skillfulness.
I am honored to work alongside Karolyn Swann and I proudly submit her as a nominee for the DAISY Award.
