Throughout the entire procedure, Kasey sat by the patient's side holding her hand while explaining to her what was happening and what to expect in a calming tone.
Kasey is a circulating nurse in the department who was recently involved in a case where she displayed exemplary care and compassion to her patient far above normal expectations. The case involved a young woman who was 12 weeks pregnant with a history of high anxiety.
Unfortunately, this patient was having several pregnancy complications that required a surgical procedure to correct. For the safety of the patient's child, the procedure needed to be done under spinal anesthesia alone with no sedation. This only added to increased levels of anxiety for the patient. Throughout the entire procedure, Kasey sat by the patient's side holding her hand while explaining to her what was happening and what to expect in a calming tone.
Being a young mother herself, Kasey shared stories of her own children and pets with the patient which had a great distracting and calming effect on her. Kasey's dedication and reverence to her patient allowed the surgical crew to successfully perform the procedure in a timely manner. When the procedure was completed, Kasey insisted on accompanying the patient all the way back to her room, holding her hand the entire way. Her creativity and dedication to the nursing profession show Kasey to be a true DAISY Nurse. Well done, Kasey!
