Nurse Morgan conversed with him in Spanish, relaying his needs to the team and encouraging him to speak English once he was ready.
Nurse Morgan came into my husband’s room and was the first and only medical personnel to crouch down next to his bed to be at eye level while she was speaking with him. She explained to my husband that he couldn’t have any calming agents as he was having a neurological oppression, but that she could play any music he wanted to help him stay calm. She didn’t even bat an eye when he picked “Los Tigres del Norte” and immediately started playing their greatest hits. Her easy demeanor was what carried my husband into the O.R. both metaphorically and literally as she wheeled him off. He remembers vividly coming to the O.R. and being “stuck” in his first language, Spanish. Nurse Morgan conversed with him in Spanish, relaying his needs to the team and encouraging him to speak English once he was ready. She made the most terrifying part of this experience as palpable as possible, and for that reason, we are honored to nominate her for the DAISY Award.
