The patient was a scared young man with a bad fungal infection that had caused severe discomfort, and a new diagnosis of diabetes to accompany said infection was frightening to him. A lot to process from how to care for his infection, what signs to look for to go to the emergency room, all while also trying to learn how to eat healthier to lower his blood glucose and how to take the new set of medications. Nurse Kassandre walked in with a reassuring smile and transmitted confidence and knowledge to the patient, which boosted his ability to manage these conditions. Thanks to nurse Kassandre, the patient knew he was not alone. He was comforted to know he was part of a team committed to his health. In weekly nurse visits, nurse Kassandre oversaw his infection resolution and by the end of 3 months he was able to lower his A1C from 12 to 7.5 on one oral medication and significant lifestyle changes.
