I am a homeless woman in the area here. I stayed at the hospital here for a total of six days. I was transported from Kings Mountain to Shelby for emergency surgery on my arm. I first met Kat after my surgery, on the fifth floor of the hospital, the medical-surgical unit. She was not the first employee here to provide outstanding care to me. I believe all the ladies here on this floor could together rule the world, however, I highly doubt that world domination is a priority or a line item on any of their bucket lists. But care and concern are. These women are too busy putting their patients first and it has not gone unnoticed by me.
If I could, I would nominate every one of them, each for the amazing way they do their job daily. Without fail, every day they make a difference. They did for me, but I digress. I nominated Kat because quite simply, she should go around with a huge "S" on her chest. She does her job with ease and a grace for which I have not seen in a very long time. If I had to guess, I would say it's because she does every act, every task, with a skill most of us lack these days, a love for her job. She never missed a single thing; every detail was looked over and cared for when she was assigned to me. She never once complained about anything, and she did every single task with a comforting smile on her face. She never once made me feel ashamed about my circumstances.
Every time Kat came into my room, she did her job with confident skill, without overlooking anything; going above and beyond to see that I was comfortable. She did this with a smile on her face that reaches one's soul and makes you feel like everything is going to be alright. I'm not saying that anyone else did anything wrong or lacked in ability. Kat just connected with me in a way that touched me greatly in my heart, with the little things she does or with the air in which she does them, which makes me believe that she is Superwoman in disguise. The hospital is lucky to have her, as it is lucky to have all these women who cared for me during my stay.
Thank you, ladies, of the med/surg unit. I am humbled and grateful to all of you for your kindness and knowledge. I will never forget any of you. And thank you, Kat, for that "something extra" you provided me. Sometimes all the little things add up to make all the difference in the world.
