Katalin role models strong clinical inquiry and is extremely skilled and knowledgeable at the bedside. She also has strong mentorship abilities and many other artistic talents that she is able to incorporate in the care she gives. She commits to providing a calming environment to the patients and families especially during their unpredictable journey.
Katalin was recognized this year by a family she connected with as she cared for their baby. Here are their words to reflect on the experience she gave them. "From the moment we met Katalin she made us feel comfortable, welcome and kept us informed as much as possible. Not only did she bring joy and laughter to us (parents) at such a scary and unpredictable time in our newborn's life, but she also did the same with our 6yr. old daughter. Katalin went above and beyond by leaving us footprint crafts of our son's feet around his room and had a nurse make (crochet) an acorn hat for our son after my boyfriend (father) mistakenly thought that the picture behind our son's bed had acorns that lit up. After a couple of days the acorn memorabilia, acorn string lights, acorn footprints, etc. continued to show up in our son's NICU room. As nurses, surgeons, physicians, lactation nurses, etc. stopped by our room. The story roamed around the entire NICU deer suite and eventually, everyone knew about our story. Our son's journey, which everyone quickly adored, became something that we could all laugh about. The simple joys in life that made us feel like the NICU stay was our home away from home. Our son miraculously improved every single day and continued to surprise surgeons and physicians. Katalin has been a NICU nurse at Children's for years and is a well-known and amazing person who knows how to make families feel comfortable and is also loved not only by us but admired by the other fellow NICU nurses as well. She isn't afraid to hold anything back, good or bad news, and we loved that quality. We are forever grateful for Katalin. All the other NICU nurses and the entire nursing team and she could not have come into our lives at any better time. She deserves the best because she gave my family and me the best and the best care. She's extremely talented and knows her job. We will miss her. Katalin embodies the values of Children's Hospital".
Katalin contributions include; precepting and mentoring. She also creates memory cards during the holidays because many patients and families have to celebrate them in the hospital. Katalin is always sharing what she has learned over the years and that speaks to the expert nurse she is today. She is a great support to her peers as she encourages the importance of self-care. Katalin is always open to listening and has a dialogue to provide therapeutic support as nurses sometimes struggle with resiliency because of the experiences they have while caring for sick patients. Katalin is the champion on the unit for all things involving bereavement care; from supply management, skills in making mementos and incorporating the family by individualizing their needs during their time of grief. Katalin's talent, knowledge, skill, and contributions to her team and her continued passion in her area of expertise affords her this recognition. What she brings to the team is immeasurable and her team members are proud to call her a co-worker, awesome nurse, and friend.
