I have recently been diagnosed with cancer of my stomach. I am 78 years old and have been in good health throughout life. My diagnosis came as a great shock to me and my family. From the very first day that I met with Kate she has talked me through my illness and provided me with the help and advice and guidance my husband and I have needed to get us prepared for the months ahead. Her genuine concern and kind loving nature have helped me understand my illness fully and given me reassurance that I am not alone.
Tomorrow I will have a total stomach removal. Knowing that Kate will be the sister at Winifred 2 ward when I come out of the high dependency gives me strength and confidence to move forward. I know that my care needs will be met fully by her team. She is an asset to the hospital and a lovely lady.
