Kate Bledsoe, RN
Kate exemplifies outstanding compassion for the patients she cares for every day. Recently, Kate was caring for a patient on our unit who is here recovering from a traumatic accident resulting in a brain injury as well as many other injuries. The patient transferred to the Skilled Nursing Unit from a facility outside of MercyOne and did not have any contact information for her significant other who was caring for her two young children. She woke up in a panic one of her first days here, wondering where her children were and wanting to see them and make sure they were okay. She was crying out that she needed help and needed to make sure her babies were okay. Many staff tried talking to her and calming her, but she was not going to calm down until she knew that her kids were okay. She was trying to remember a phone number for her significant other but could not remember it due to her brain injury. This only upset her more. Kate stayed late after her shift and helped the patient find contact information for her significant other and helped to call him. The patient was quickly calmed when she got to talk to her children. Kate's compassion greatly impacted this young lady's recovery and ease her mind that her children were safe.
