Kate has a beautiful compassion for her patients, and along with her outstanding medical knowledge, Kate is ALWAYS making the safety and care of her patients her number one priority. I personally witnessed this on many occasions, but one comes to mind. Kate was caring for an orthopedic patient in the PACU where she works; Kate noticed a change in her patient's heart rate and rhythm. Immediately she contacted the surgeon about her concern. Kate continued to advocate for her patient until the right thing was done. The patient was transferred to UVA PWMC to receive a pacemaker. I believe that for this patient, Kate was her angel. Such a life-changing perfect outcome for this patient. I applaud Kate for all she does for all of us and especially I applaud her for her compassion and dedication in nursing.
