One staff member described her awesome experience with Kate as preceptor. They visited a hospice patient in a homeless shelter who was receiving charity care from MJHS. The patient received VIP care and Kate advocated to the Shelter Director for special permissions to be given and ensured that the patient received a Home Health Aide to assist and safeguard his medication. She is always like this, the staff say: selfless- not only to her patients but to her teammates as well.
"I have seen her draw a picture for families who couldn't read," wrote another teammate. Her smile and enthusiasm are like someone who just won the lotto. She makes every caretaker and provider stronger. Kate's patient caseload is complex. most living in inner city projects with many social and cultural needs. She says that this is where she is the happiest and where she can make the most positive impact on her patients and families lives. She is tireless when advocating for her patients. "If any of my own family were ill, I would want Kate to be their nurse," wrote another.
Nominations echoed Kate's superb role as an advocate for patients and families and her genuine approach. Patients say that they feel they are her #1 priority, truly being present when she is with them, never judging, and always displaying warmth and calmness.
