To know Kate is to love her, and anyone who gets to work alongside her or be on the receiving end of her care is truly blessed. Kate is nominated for her extensive efforts to ensure a safe and healthy outcome for a brand-new baby. This infant was born to a mother who had an extensive history of violence, drug use, and severe neglect of her other three children (who are no longer in her custody). Despite the patient being extremely emotionally labile, difficult to care for due to threatening behavior and having an extensive history, Kate proved care without judgment or bias and kept the continuity of care to ensure the best possible outcomes for this mother and baby.

Since Kate was aware of the mother's history, she wanted to ensure this couplet was assessed and had an adequate discharge plan to ensure the safety of the newborn at home. Kate properly reported concerns to the appropriate people, however, a response back was not received. Kate took the time to stay over and call repeatedly until a plan was made to have a thorough assessment conducted prior to discharge. Thanks to Kate's efforts, this baby was able to receive a safe and healthy discharge home with a plan to ensure positive outcomes for all. If it wasn't for Kate's excellence, advocacy, and adamant, efforts to ensure the safety of this child, the outcomes could have been drastically different. I am so proud of Kate to stand her ground to make sure this mother and child got the resources they needed. The Madras team and our community are better for receiving her care.
