Kate consistently goes above and beyond for her patient, making sure she was safe and happy throughout all of her hospital stays. This patient's parents left her alone at the hospital when visitation restrictions were increased due to COVID-19, and Kate really bonded with her, making her feel safe and happy while her parents disappeared.
Kate is always available to answer questions and give advice on the best ways to handle her, being caring and understanding that I just don't know this patient as well as she does because I only gained guardianship a few weeks ago. Kate has helped me navigate the hospital and taught me how to care for her at home above the care training I have gotten; helping us to soothe her when she's upset and teaching us things to look out for due to her unique set of needs and wants.
This patient loves Kate, likes her above everyone else at the hospital or at home, and when a very young child has such a strong and loving bond with a nurse, everyone can tell that it is because this nurse cared for her as a parent would care for her. Her 3rd birthday passed while in 4 West after her parents had disappeared and before I was allowed in. Kate set up a video chat with our family so we could share and celebrate with her, made sure she had presents to open (I'm sure lots of people helped with that), and had the best birthday she could have. Kate gave us information on getting wigs and burn camp for the future and has just shown her compassion and care of this patient time after time. I wish every kid to have a nurse as amazing as Kate.
