Kate was working night shift in the CCU during October, we had a medically complex dementia patient who was very upset. Kate had just come on shift, but she got a sharpie, a towel, and a piece of ribbon. She then fastened together the folded towel to make a teddy bear. The patient loved it, she showed me as I walked into the room, called it "my bear" and hugged it until she fell asleep. This had a significant impact on the patient's care and trust for the staff. Kate thought quickly and was able to have a positive impact on this patient, as well as save unnecessary pharmacologic or diagnostic intervention. All around an impressive move.
