To know our nurse really understands what we are all going through and to be someone my daughter can look to and have a home was very meaningful.
We had a rough admission with a lot of miscommunications & dropped balls. Kate took over care of my daughter in the morning, I was very upset as things were not completed as promised & not communicated to her either. We had been admitted very late & were exhausted. We come a lot so I was frustrated, to say the least as this shouldn’t have happened. None of it was her fault, but I was very upset. She got to the bottom of what went wrong, fixed what she could & helped smooth out the rest. She also came in & shared her own personal story about when she was diagnosed with cancer, same age as my daughter. It was very touching & there were many parallels with our family’s story. It was the perfect amount & time to self-disclose something like that & couldn’t have come at a better time when we were finishing our treatment & all exhausted. To know our nurse really understands what we are all going through and to be someone my daughter can look to and have a home was very meaningful. This is the kind of nursing that cannot be taught and comes from a place of authenticity that cannot be faked. Obviously, I don’t wish cancer upon all our nurses but how lucky we were to have Kate that day. She was also a very capable & competent nurse on top of that, but her personal story & kindness meant more than I can adequately express in this small text box.
