My wife was due to be released after several sessions of chemotherapy. My wife's doctor recommended that she receive an infusion of red blood cells before her release. He indicated that it was unlikely that the infusions could be accomplished that day and an overnight stay was all but certain. My wife appealed to her nurse, who indicated that if all the stars aligned, the infusions might be accomplished that afternoon. My wife really wanted to go home and her nurse went to advocate for her. She saw to it that the blood was ordered and the infusion was immediately started. By this time, shift change had occurred and the night nurse indicated that she had been given specific instructions on how to proceed by Kate. My wife was released at 9 pm. We are forever thankful for the attention given by Kate and her ability to get things done on a tight schedule, with full attention to medical protocol.
